About Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a therapeutic treatment that uses natural plant extracts, called essential oils, to restore balance and bring about change in your mind, body and spirit.

The most common treatment method is aromatherapy massage, in which Jen applies specific essential oils and base oils to your skin and uses massage to cleanse your lymphatic system, in order to help you achieve desired health or relaxation effects.

(Aromatherapy massage should not be confused with massage that treats the muscles and deep tissues, which can only be practiced by a registered massage therapist.)

Jen can also custom-design essential oil blends, bath salts, soaps, or lotions to suit your at-home needs.

What to expect on your first visit
When you meet Jen for the first time she will help you complete a thorough survey so she can learn about your health history. She'll also discuss any concerns you might have.

This consultation will give her the information she needs to work with you, and help her decide on the best treatment plan for your health concerns.

From there you'll either move on to an aromatherapy massage in Jen's treatment room, or you'll come back a second time to get the custom at-home remedy Jen will blend for you.

An aromatherapy lymph drainage massage begins with Jen picking the best oil blend for your situation. She then leaves the room as you get undressed and get under the covers on top of the massage table.

When the treatment starts, she analyzes your feet and face to look for areas of imbalance that may be present within your body.

The treatment proceeds to a gentle massage in this order: the backs of your legs, your back, the back of your neck, and your head. You'll turn over, and then Jen will massage your feet, face, arms (if needed,) and abdomen. She'll finish by returning to your face.

Jen will then leave the room to allow you a few minutes to bask in the relaxation.

When you're dressed she then comes back into the room to discuss your feelings about the treatment, and to give you after-care instructions to follow. You'll discuss your treatment plan and make a follow-up appointment if one is necessary.

Jen will custom-blend an aromatherapy remedy for home useAt-Home Remedies — Aromatherapy Products and Oils
Sometimes an aromatherapy lymph drainage massage may not be necessary for a physical or emotional concern.

In these cases Jen will custom-blend an aromatherapy remedy for home use. This could be a lotion, some bath salts, a body rub/massage oil, a balm or a salve, or an oil blend you can use with a diffuser to scent the air.

An initial consultation is still necessary in order for Jen to prepare a blend (she needs your health history) but at any point after the initial one, a short consultation over the phone is usually all she needs to create a remedy for you. You'll be able to pick it up from her office at your convenience — saving you from having to make two trips.

You'll receive an information page with your at-home remedy that details directions for use and a suggested follow-up date. (Follow-up appointments are especially important with at-home remedies to give Jen the opportunity to modify your blend if necessary, and to check in on how you are feeling.)
